Pre-graduation Checklist

Here are some suggestions to help you wrap up your studies at CU-Boulder.

  • Review your degree requirements with your advisor.
  • Verify graduation deadlines for your college.
  • Apply for graduation with your dean’s office.
  • Update your permanent address at MyCUInfo.edu to ensure you receive your diploma, enrollment deposit refund, and all other pertinent information without delay. Enrollment deposit refunds, less any outstanding charges, will be mailed eight weeks after graduation.
  • Clear your records. IWs and IFs can stop graduation. Your professor must clear them before the deadline set by your dean’s office. This also holds true for Continuing Education courses. Grades must be in before the deadlines, and your dean’s office must be notified.
  • Any financial obligations you have (fines, tickets, fees, etc.) must be cleared at the Bursar’s Office in Regent 150. You can view and pay your bill on MyCUInfo.colorado.edu. (See instructions on the Bursar’s Office website.)
  • If you have any outstanding student loans, check with the Office of Financial Aid in Regent 175 to tie up any loose ends there. If you have a Federal Perkins (NDSL) loan, an exit interview package is being mailed to you and must be completed before you can receive your diploma. Call Perkins at 303-492-5571 or the Bursar at 303-492-5381 for more information.
  • Drop further courses. If you have already registered for further courses in your current degree program for an upcoming term but are graduating, it is your responsibility to drop all your courses. Students who graduate and plan to enroll at CU Boulder for further study must reapply to the university for a graduate degree or a second bachelor’s degree. Those who simply wish to take course work without pursuing a degree should consider applying though Continuing Education as non-degree students, which does not require an application fee or transcripts. Please call the Office of Admissions at 303-492-6301 for further information on degree programs, or Continuing Education at 303-492-5148 for non-degree student information.
  • Use this website to answer all of your questions regarding commencement. Graduating students will receive all information via e-mail.
  • Contact Career Services for help writing your resumé and other career related help.
  • Visit the CU Book Store for your graduation announcements, diploma frame, and college ring information.
  • Attend the Grad Fair during the spring semester for graduation information, products, and services.
  • Learn more about the spirit of Forever Buffs and how connecting with the Alumni Association now can help you with your career, meeting new Buff friends and relocation advice.  There are no membership dues to be part of Forever Buffs.
  • Take care of health insurance. Your policy eligibility may change based on age, dependency, or student status. Members of the CU-Boulder Alumni Association can receive access to group health insurance rates through American Insurance Administrators. Contact the Alumni Association at 303-492-8484 or go to the Alumni Association website for more information. For graduating students enrolled in a university health plan, coverage will continue through the end of the policy (check with the insurance company for specific dates). Though graduates are no longer eligible for continued university health plan coverage after their policies expire, the insurance company sells a conversion plan. This place is different from the student health plan. For more information about the conversion plan, call MEGA Life at 1-800-237-0903 ext. 6244; for information about the university health plans, call 303-492-5107.
  • Should your plans to graduate change, notify your dean’s office immediately.
